Lost & Found
Short Movie
A lost property office inside a 1970s train station. Behind the counter, a seasoned clerk; behind him, shelves reaching the ceiling, every object tagged with a number. Everyone finds the answer they came for.
Approach
We wanted a film that could not be carried by a single striking image. No dialogue, one location, a deadpan tone: everything rests on performance, timing and the rhythm of the cut. The visual language is deliberately restrained, built on a locked-off frontal counter axis that repeats throughout the film, with extreme close-ups and macro inserts breaking it. The world is lit by a single green desk lamp against the blue of a night interior, a warm island in a cold room.
Production
Lost & Found was made with a new working method we have been developing at WRAI. Instead of illustrating a film frame by frame, we design and lock a set of assets first: locations, character sheets, wardrobe, props. Everything that has to stay consistent is decided and approved before a single shot is generated. The film is then built from those references, which keeps faces, colour, wardrobe and set continuity stable across every cut, and makes revisions a matter of changing one reference instead of regenerating dozens of frames.
The result is a shift in what the work is about. For a long time, AI filmmaking meant short moments and single-shot demonstrations. This series is where that changed for us: we are telling actual stories now, working on performance, editing, continuity and, most importantly, emotion. The point is not the technology, it is what you have to say.
